In 1969, a Christian family gave 60 acres of land to a non-profit corporation for the purpose of building a Christian camp. Little was done with the land and the abandoned farm house for three years. Then plans gave way to action: 6,000 trees were planted; then 3,000 more; and finally, an additional 40,000, for a grand total of 49,000 trees planted, mostly pines. The old farm house was totally remodeled for use as a Director's quarters, canteen, arts and crafts, and for meal preparation. The old barn was torn down, and the lumber used to build four cabins with 10 beds each. A bath-house, large 60x24 swimming pool, baseball diamond, water fountains, and a complete water and sewer system followed. Almost everything has been done with volunteer labor. a fifth cabin was then built by Christians from Jadwin and Salem. In 1979 approximately 30 members pledged money each year for 8 years to fund the construction of a 60x120 foot block and brick multi-purpose building. With God's blessings the building was completed in 1980 and was completely paid for by the end of 1986 as scheduled. The building consists of a completely modern kitchen, cooks quarters, a large fireplace, and plenty of room for basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, and other inside games. Many thanks go to those who have contributed so much of their time and money to the success of LPBC.
If this old farm could talk... I belong to a farmer who spent years clearing my fields - a lover of the land. My house was vacant and unloved. This was not a home. He sold me, and my new owner - a lover of much more than land - gave me away. My newest owners would not make me a home either - just a resting place on a long journey. They quickly filled my fields with trees and gave my house a fresh coat of paint - lovers of growing things and homes (if only temporary). Then my new owners built temporary dwellings to welcome visitors - lovers of people. As my new family gathered here from time to time they always had a very old friend with them - also a Great Lover of People. This was a friend I had known even before my land-loving farmer. This friend knew every form I had taken and always loved me just as I was at any given time - an unconditional lover. This friend knew my creek when it was big enough for swimming. He knew my blackberry briars when no one else did. He knew my old trees and my many new trees. He also knew all of my visitors and loved them unconditionally as well - a lover of sinners. He took pleasure from watching my visitors grow. He watched them take giant steps forward and little steps backward, but He never left them alone. He was always with them - a Great and Forgiving God! Yes, God and I go way back. And maybe, just maybe, that old farmer had no idea just how far his work would reach when he cleared the trees out of those fields for planting. And maybe that generous farmer had no idea how far his generosity would reach when he gave me away for a greater purpose. And maybe those young families had no idea just how far their work might reach when they planted those fields full of pine seedlings. But God knew! God knows the fields were prepared and the seeds were planted all those years ago. And he still knows the crops of today. He is the Greatest Lover of His children - my visitors - always welcome - always loved! by Donalie Stormes (Owens)
